Terms of Service
Effective October 1, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Koru Shield ("we", "us") governing your use of the Koru Shield service. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The service
Koru Shield is a consumer DNS filtering and online-security service. It protects the devices you enroll by resolving your DNS queries through our resolvers, which block known malicious domains, phishing sites, and categories you choose to filter, such as adult content. The service includes:
- DNS resolution through our edge network in Northern Virginia and Oregon, over encrypted DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH). We do not publicly offer unencrypted DNS or other transports.
- A web portal for managing filtering profiles, devices, rules, schedules, and parental controls.
- Device setup artifacts such as configuration profiles, QR codes, and setup guides for supported platforms.
The service filters at the domain level. It does not inspect the content of websites, messages, or encrypted traffic, and it cannot block every threat on the internet. See Section 6 for what we do not promise.
2. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose, or to facilitate unlawful activity.
- Attack, probe, or attempt to disrupt our resolvers, control plane, or other infrastructure.
- Resell, white-label, or redistribute the service to third parties without our written permission.
- Share your resolver tokens or credentials publicly, or use another person's account without permission.
- Enroll devices you do not own or administer, except for devices belonging to members of your own household when parental controls are the purpose.
- Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or filtering policies applied to your account.
You are responsible for activity under your account, including activity by people you give access to.
3. Accounts
- You must provide accurate account information and keep it up to date.
- You must use a strong password (at least 12 characters) and keep your credentials and recovery codes secret. We strongly recommend enabling multi-factor authentication.
- Accounts are for individuals and households. If you manage devices for others, such as children, you represent that you have the authority to do so.
- We may require email verification before an account becomes active, and we may require operator approval for new signups.
- You may request deletion of your account at any time from the portal. Deletion is delayed and cancelable for a short period, then your account data is removed as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Payments and billing
Paid plans (Guardian, Family Space, Prosumer) are billed monthly in advance in US dollars through our payment processor, Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled; cancel anytime from account settings, with paid features active until the end of the billing period. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial months. 30-day money-back guarantee: if you cancel within 30 days of your first paid subscription, email contact@korushield.com for a full refund, no questions asked. If a payment fails we will retry and notify you by email, and paid features may be suspended until payment succeeds. Prices are listed on our site; we will give at least 30 days notice before any price change.
5. Termination
- You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, abuse the service, or if required by law. Where practical, we will warn you first.
- On termination, your right to use the service ends immediately. We will delete or anonymize your data according to our Privacy Policy, subject to legal retention obligations.
- Sections 6, 7, and 10 survive termination.
6. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Specifically:
- No security product blocks every threat. Malware, phishing, and unwanted content may still reach your devices.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or latency-free DNS resolution.
- Filtering decisions rely on third-party threat intelligence and blocklists, which may be incomplete or contain errors. A blocked or allowed domain is not our endorsement of that domain.
- You remain responsible for keeping your devices updated and for your own online behavior. Koru Shield is one layer of protection, not a substitute for good security practices.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Koru Shield and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
8. Privacy
Running a DNS filtering service necessarily involves seeing the domain names you look up. How we collect, use, retain, and protect that data, and what rights you have over it, is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example when we add new plans or the service changes. We will post the updated Terms here and revise the "Effective" date. Material changes will be announced in the portal or by email where practical. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
10. General
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
